浙江省亚热带作物研究所创建于1962年1月，所址位于温州瓯海，长期从事我国中、南亚热带地区经济植物资源研究开发和生态环境建设。2016年增挂浙南林业科学研究院。全所现有红树林研究中心、观赏植物研究室、果树研究室、林业研究室、农业与环境检测中心、山地粮油研究室、特色蔬菜研究室、药用植物研究室 、功能植物研究室和虫生真菌研究室10个特色优势学科方向，，建有国家林草沿海特色植物工程技术研究中心等平台，在职职工120余人，其中专技人员77人，博硕士占比84%。拥有自主使用权属土地1145亩、科研办公用房1.2万平方米、研发大棚设施3.5万平方米。
建所六十多年来，先后引进亚热带特色资源植物760余种，建立各类科技示范和成果推广基地12万亩。获国家、省部地级获奖成果228项，育成新品种44个，获发明专利104件，制定团体和地方标准26个，出版专著46部、发表SCI（含一级学报）论文137篇。技术支撑中国北缘万亩红树林高质量营建，有效解决沿海地区高盐量重粘土海涂农林复合经营技术难题，开发的丛生竹马蹄笋已成为浙南地区现代高效生态林业的典范，科技支撑温州“一个果”产业提质增效，创新研发的特色道地药材以及蝉花虫草研究成果达国内领先水平，东南沿海农林业科技进步与区域社会经济发展提供了有力的科技支撑。
Introduction to Zhejiang Institute of Subtropical Crops
The Zhejiang Institute of Subtropical Crops (ZISC), established in 1962 and located in Ouhai District, Wenzhou, Zhejiang, focuses on the research and utilization of economic plant resources and on ecological environment construction in China’s subtropical regions. In 2016, the institute additionally adopted the name Zhejiang Southern Academy of Forestry Science. ZISC currently has ten key disciplinary directions: the Mangrove Research Center; Ornamental Plants Laboratory; Fruit Tree Laboratory; Forestry Laboratory; Agricultural and Environmental Testing Center; Upland Grain and Oil Crops Laboratory; Specialty Vegetables Laboratory; Medicinal Plants Laboratory; Functional Plants Laboratory; and Entomopathogenic (entomogenous) Fungi Laboratory. It hosts platforms including the National Forestry and Grassland Engineering Technology Research Center for Coastal Characteristic Plants. The institute has more than 120 staff in post, including 77 professional and technical personnel; master’s and doctoral degree holders account for 84%. It holds 76 ha of land with independent use rights, 12,000 m² of office and lab space, and 35,000 m² of greenhouse facilities for R&D.
Over the past six decades, ZISC has introduced more than 760 species of subtropical characteristic resource plants and established 8,000 ha of demonstration bases. It has won 228 awards at the national, provincial,ministerial, and municipal levels; bred 44 new varieties; obtained 104 invention patents; formulated 26 group and local standards; published 46 monographs; and produced 137 SCI papers (including papers in first‑tier journals). The institute has provided technical support for the high‑quality establishment of 700 ha of mangroves at the northern margin of China’s mangrove distribution, effectively solving technical challenges of integrated agroforestry management on coastal high‑salinity, heavy‑clay tidal flats. The developed clumping‑bamboo “horseshoe” shoots have become a model of modern, efficient ecological forestry in southern Zhejiang. ZISC has also provided support to improve the quality and efficiency of Wenzhou’s “One Fruit” industry. Its medicinal plant research has reached a leading level domestically, providing strong scientific and technological support for agriforestry progress development in the southeastern coastal areas.
